Rewild

This was my entry in the BGG 2023 Solitaire Print and Play Contest - a light, easy to learn tile-laying game in which you (nature) are shaping and restoring the landscape to create diverse habitats for wildlife.

The game was inspired during my walks around Knepp Castle Estate, not far from where I live. The estate was once intensively farmed, but since 2001 has been devoted to a pioneering rewilding project - returning the landscape to a wilder state - and has seen extraordinary increases in wildlife. Extremely rare species such as nightingales, turtle doves, peregrine falcons and white storks are now breeding there.

The square tiles have 4 areas with 3 types of habitat: woodland, scrubland and wetland and smaller square tokens represent wildlife of different habitats and values.

Tiles are laid (offset to one another by 1 area) to create spaces that are surrounded by habitats on all 4 sides. Once such a space is made, a wildlife token is placed in it.

The more of a wildlife's habitat type adjacent to it, the more it scores and, at the end of the game, the largest area of each type of habitat also scores.

Rewild was voted: Best Game designed in the contest timeframe.

A small expansion, Fungi & Flora, is also available. This adds more wildlife (with variable values), as well as viewing platforms, to offer additional strategies and ways to expand your habitats.
